Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Spot Saver attach to my vehicle?

The Spot Saver mounts to any vehicle with a standard 2”x2” (Class 3) hitch receiver.

My conversion van doesn’t have a hitch, how can I use the Spot Saver?

Although conversion vans typically aren't equipped with a hitch receiver by default, it's usually feasible to have one installed afterward. Consider consulting your nearby conversion van dealership or local auto body shop to explore the option of adding a hitch receiver to your vehicle.

How does the Spot Saver Work?

The Spot Saver is stored in a folded position, and when it is to be utilized, a locking clevis pin is pulled enabling it to fold out horizontally into the adjacent parking spot. To keep the Spot Saver straight, a flip lock mechanism is put into place that prevents it from folding.

Can I still access the trunk of my vehicle with the Spot Saver mounted?

Both versions of the Spot Saver incorporate a tilting function that facilitates access to the rear trunk of any hatchback vehicle.

How much does the Spot Saver weigh? Can I use it by myself?

The Spot Saver is made of high strength, low weight aluminum, making it sturdy, yet light. The Spot Saver 6 weighs 7 pounds in total. After the Spot Saver is mounted to your vehicle, the arm is able to be deployed using minimal amounts of effort (weighing 1.5 pounds).

What happens if someone walks into the Spot Saver?

The Spot Saver is made of lightweight aluminum. The extended arm weighs roughly 1.5 pounds and has a slight give when pressed on.

The Spot Saver appears to cover the entire adjacent space. Are other pedestrians able to get around it?

The North American standard for parking spaces is 8.5-9’ wide. The Spot Saver 6 is designed to extend 6’ beyond the passenger side of a conversion van. This length was chosen as a middle ground for having enough space for a wheelchair ramp plus the turn radius wheelchairs require, while also leaving enough space for others to get around it. Careful consideration must be taken when using this device.

Is the Spot Saver legal to deploy?

Users of the Spot Saver must follow all local state and federal regulations. The Spot Saver is intended to provide users enough room to access their vehicle, and user discretion is advised.

The Spot Saver in the pictures show it covering the taillights, is that legal?

The current pictures shown on the website are the latest prototype of the Spot Saver. A newer, revised model is coming from the fabricator very soon. The overall height has been lowered to address this issue.

When will the Spot Saver be available for purchase?

We are working hard to get the Spot Savers available for the public to purchase. The current timeline for availability is June 2024.

Can a Spot Saver be purchased through insurance?

At this time, insurance does not cover the cost of the Spot Saver. If you, or someone you know, has any resources to help make this possible, please reach out.

Can you go through a car wash with the Spot Saver attached?
